Let’s make Merton carbon neutral by 2050 together!

On 10 July 2019, Merton Council declared a Climate Emergency and set the ambitious carbon reduction target to make the borough of Merton carbon neutral by 2050. To lead the way, the Council is also working towards making its own buildings and services carbon neutral by 2030. Over the coming months we will be developing a Climate Action Plan, which will set out how these targets can be achieved, to take to our Cabinet and full Council in early 2020, and we want you to be a part of the process.

The Council is committed to taking action and leading the way in decarbonising the borough. However, given that the vast majority of greenhouse gas emissions in Merton are outside the Council’s direct control, Merton’s residents and businesses have a crucial role to play. This is why we want to engage with you, Merton’s community, to inform our Climate Action Plan. We want to understand your views around decarbonising Merton, as well as the barriers which prevent you from taking more climate action, to help identify potential solutions to this challenge and develop actions to incorporate in our plan.

Please complete our Climate Change consultation survey today to contribute to this important process for Merton. Please use the text boxes provided to tell us about any specific barriers that you face, and any relevant projects happening across the borough or any proposals that you might have.

Please see our Climate Emergency web pages for more information on what we’re doing and why. If you have any specific projects that you would like to discuss with us in more detail, please contact Merton’s Climate Change Officers at Future.Merton@Merton.gov.uk.
