Merton Council

Merton Public Space Protection Order

Description:

The Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 introduced a set of tools to address Anti-Social Behaviour and the impact that this behaviour can have on individuals and communities. Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO’s) are one of these tools and are designed to prohibit certain activities or can require that people do certain things when engaging in activities within a defined public area.

Since 2017, we have had one borough wide PSPO designed to address anti-social behaviour related to alcohol. This PSPO is due to expire in October 2020 and so we are now consultation around our proposed smaller, more geographically focused PSPO, covering Cricket Green, Figges Marsh, Graveney, Lavender Fields and Ravensbury.

Outcome:

Our Cabinet met on 7 September and agreed to proceed with a Public Space Protection order that covers the wards around Mitcham Town Centre as was proposed. The report to cabinet includes a breakdown of the consultation responses.

Consultation start date 28 June 2020
Consultation end date 09 August 2020
