Why do we want your views?

We would like to invite you to share your views regarding Merton’s proposed approach to “Early Help”. Early help is provided when families need a bit more help than is universally available from a health visitor or a nursery or school. Sometimes when families need extra help they may get extra support from a health visitor, children’s centre staff, community and voluntary sector staffs, youth  workers or support workers in school

Thinking about a time when your family was given extra help, we’d like to hear about how it was for you. Was it; 

  • The Right Help for you?

We’d like to understand how the extra help worked for you, what was good about it and what could have made it even better? 

We know that this year has been exceptional and some families may have not been able to access services in the usual way. So, we also want to know if there are things that could have helped in the past year, which you think might have helped your family during the Covid pandemic.

We will be seeking views between 1 March and 2 April, after this we will review the feedback and amend the strategy, with a final version being published in April

Why do we want your views?

This study has been prepared to assist the Council, community groups, stakeholders and others with an interest in the borough to better understand Merton’s distinctive local character. It is an update to the Borough Character Study undertaken between 2011 and 2015.

The Character Study will support preparation of the Council’s New Local Plan as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and be used to inform a character and 'place-based' approach to managing growth in the borough. Similarly, neighbourhood forums will be able to draw on this study to assist with the preparation of their neighbourhood plans. The report will also inform decisions made by Council officers and should be an important tool used by developers and others investing in Merton to ensure proposals positively respond to the local context.

Why do we want your views?

The purpose of this Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) is to provide design guidance for residential-led projects that provide new homes on sites that are 0.25ha or less in area. The toolkit contains tools to help raise the quality of new homes in the borough. It is primarily for; developers and their design teams, who prepare applications for planning permission; planning officers, who assess planning applications; councillors, who make planning decisions; and local residents, businesses and their representatives.

Residents who live in the affected roads will be allowed access as will staff who are based at the school; those with special needs children who need to be driven to school would also be exempt.

Why do we want your views?

In July 2019, as part of its School Safety Zone, the Council introduced restricted vehicular access operational Mon-Fri 8.00-9.30am and 2.30-3.30pm. This was introduced under an Experimental Order.

The Council has been advised by the school that its afternoon finish time has now changed. Consequently, for the scheme to remain effective, we are increasing the current afternoon period by half hour. The new afternoon restriction will be 2.30 - 4.00pm; the morning period will remain the same 8.00-9.30am
This change means the start of a new statutory consultation under the Experimental Order. This change will come into operation on 22nd October 2020. As before, you have 6 months to make a representation to this scheme.
