Merton Council

Neighbourhood Fund - 2021 Bidding round

Description:

We are pleased to announce the opening of this year’s Neighbourhood Fund bidding round! We will be holding an extended bidding round up to the 10th of September this year to ensure everyone has sufficient time to submit their bid. Successful bids will be decided by Merton’s Cabinet in November 2021. We have made improvements to the bid form based on feedback received since last year’s bidding round.

Funding from developers is collected by Merton through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) to support the demand that new homes and other development places on the borough. A portion of this (15%) is set aside for the Neighbourhood Fund to directly fund local projects that address development demands on Merton and meet local priorities that enhance Merton as a place to live and work.

We would like to offer this opportunity to hear about your proposal for how this money can be used to directly deliver outcomes that address demands of development and support our local community. This may include funding improvements to green spaces, community facilities, town centres and streetscapes or local initiatives that help address the Climate Emergency, assist with Covid-19 recovery or build social capital and bridging the gap across Merton.

The bidding process is competitive: last year £1.9m was given out to 26 projetcs (item 6) from across the borough. This year we are expecting a large number of bids for less funding available (£1m) to give out during a time of unprecedented demand for funding as we rebuild from Covid-19.
